A belated Happy New Year to you all !
A few updates to share after our Committee meeting earlier this week:
1: The new padel courts should be arriving for installation on the 21st. PARKING WILL BE (FURTHER) RESTRICTED while they arrive and are installed! Full details to follow when precise dates are known but please bear this in mind. Walk, cycle, car-share, you know the drill! The ANPR system should be installed at roughly the same time. Full instructions will follow when dates are finalised.
2: Our AGM will be on Friday 7th February at 7pm. I will circulate formal details in due course but please keep the date free. We will be presenting our budget for 2025/26, tweaks to the Constitution, updates on our financials for 2024/25 and electing the new Committee for 2025/26. The evening won’t be as exciting as a sports event or as emotional as The Traitors but is more important for our club, so please be there.
3: We are still looking for a replacement for myself as secretary (and vice-chair tennis) so if you are interested please let me know at secretary@epsomtennisclub.co.uk. It is not onerous, honest.
4: Look out for a survey that will be coming out shortly. Given the rapid growth in membership, and fewer social events this year than in the past, we want to make sure that what we (or rather you!) put on, reflects what people want to take part in. So please respond to the survey. We are currently working on a programme of events for the next couple of months, before using the results of the survey to plan for later in the year.
5: That survey will also feed into a wider review of our Strategy that the (new) Committee will carry out in the spring, to make sure our club continues to flourish. We will mention this at the AGM and then feedback the results later in the year.
6: I hope you enjoyed reading Linda’s first Newsletter. Please send any news/photos/gossip/thought pieces direct to her at: linda.stjohn@epsomtennisclub.co.uk
7: Many thanks to those clay court tennis players who are sweeping and brushing after playing, it is appreciated!
8: Just a reminder, as mentioned on the last update, that we have had to increase the visitor fee for Padel guests to £10 with effect from 1 January 2025. Also with effect from 1 January 2025 the trial allowing Off-Peak Padel members to play in the weekend slots was removed. This aligns the Off-Peak Padel membership rights with those for Off-Peak tennis members.
9: We recognise that the new clubhouse is a huge improvement, but some tweaks are still needed (eg the ceiling, the splodge on the carpet and possibly self-closing doors to the changing rooms for privacy especially for the ladies’ changing room). We will do our best within our limited resources!
That’s it, stay warm, ask any of the Committee for further details, and see you around
David
