There are thousands of different strings, varying in material, colour, thickness, playability, durability and price. Recreational and improving players are advised to use nylon strings, whilst chronic string breakers and those tennis players using heavy topspin and hit with more power may need to choose a polyester string, either all over or as a hybrid of poly and nylon. Mid range tension for tennis rackets is normally about 55lbs, try a higher tension for more control or a lower tension for more power.
